Let’s Get Our Hands Dirty
Finding My Passion
While pottery may be the oldest human invention, dating back to the earliest civilizations - in my opinion, it continues to be one of the most beautiful and functional art forms. I have fun exploring the intersection of creativity and practicality - making art that can be used.
It all started for me as a kid, growing up in a family that appreciates creativity and the arts. By the time I was in high school, I was making pottery with my older brother, taking every pottery class offered, and learning everything I could.
In March 2020, my Sophmore year of high school, and the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic - I found myself without the usual daily access to my school studio - no clay, no wheel, no kiln, no glazes, and therefore - no pottery. So, with time on our hands and a passion for pottery, my brother Mason and I decided to make our own studio in our parent’s basement. We bought a wheel, found and bought a used kiln on Craigslist (with our Mom’s help), built a ventilation system from scratch, ran enough electricity to make it all work (with our Dad’s help)…and converted the storage area of our basement into our new studio. We made the best of the lock-down throughout 2020-21, spending our extra time playing with clay in our new studio.
Over the last several years, I’ve had the privilege of learning from and being supported by amazing pottery teachers, friends, and family - thank you all! I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with new concepts, create my own custom glazes, expand my skills & experience, and “throw” myself into the creative process. With the encouragement of those around me, this summer I am starting to offer some of my work for sale. Again, I appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at some of the upcoming events in our community!
I graduated from Chanhassen High School in May 2022 and in the fall I’m heading to the University of Minnesota - Duluth.
